ESCORTEV for sale

<img src='http://www.evtradinpost.com/./pictures/listings/th_medium_266_16.jpg'; align='left'; height='90'>FOR SALE - 1995 Ford Escort LX 2 door hatchback. 360,000 kms on the car. Full battery electric conversion done in 2009 and has about 1000 kms EV on it since conversion. Being sold complete, except for batteries and is sold "as-is".

I have listed all that is in the vehicle now and what I believe it needs in the near future to keep it roadworthy. In any event, the vehicle is being sold "as-is" and will be delivered if needed to your location (within a 300 km radius of Waubaushene Ontario) for a fee of an additional $100 - which I believe is reasonable considering fuel costs, etc. If you need it to go to a location beyond that distance, we can work out a cost.

I had considered parting out the car, but after some soul-searching and discussions, we decided that it was best just to sell it in once piece - take it as it is. The buyer could then part out any bits and pieces that they don't require if need be.

So, without further ado, here are the necessary details about ESCORTEV;

1) It is a registered "EV" in Ontario and the plates just ran out of validation in January 2012.

2) It does not come with batteries - it is currently set up for 72 volts using 6 each of 12 volt, group 31 deep-cycle flooded lead-acid batteries, and one 12 volt gelcell accessory battery located under the hood.

3) Battery chargers are 1 x Canadian Tire 12 volt 4 amp charger (for the accessory battery) and Promariner "Prosport 20+" x 2 units and can be viewed here ...

http://www.hodgesmarine.com/Promariner-Prosport-20-Plus-Gen-2-Heavy-Duty-Water-p/prm42021.htm

4) The motor is a Thrige Electric 7-1/2" diameter unit rated at about 16 HP @ 48 volts (hydraulic pump motor taken from a Hyster 6500 lb forklift built in 2004) and is mounted to the original transmission/clutch assembly via a custom adapter and flywheel.

5) It has an Alltrax AXE 7245 controller and a Curtis PB-6 potbox for control - can be viewed here ...

http://www.cloudelectric.com/product_p/co-axe7245.htm

6) Main contactor is a GE unit and is rated for 300 amps continuous (taken from a Hyster 6500 lb forklift built in 2004).

7) Has 500 amp ammeter and shunt.

8) Has a Curtis LED battery gauge

9) Has a Sevcon 300 watt DC-DC converter for 12 volts from the main pack (yes has both accessory battery and dc-dc converter) and can be viewed here ...

http://www.thunderstruck-ev.com/sevcon-72-80v-dc-dc.html

10) Car charges through plug located in the gas filler and is interlocked with the main contactor - when there is AC applied, the contactor is locked out. The original inertia switch is still in the car and can be wired in series to drop out contactor on impact. Car still has original ECM and air bag (operational, as far as I know - haven't tested it!).

11) Thomas vacuum pump to maintain power brake function.

Car can still be viewed here ...

http://www.evalbum.com/2838

What the car could use in the near future;

1) Drivers door - the bottom of the door is a bit rough in terms of rust and would benefit from a replacement unit.

2) New front struts - these have taken a beating from the batteries being up front. A new set of heavy-duty units would work perfect here.

3) Overall body is not too bad, but it does need some freshening up, in terms of minor body repair and paint.

4) Front rad support is rusted out, but has been augmented with a piece of angle-iron bolted from fender support to fender support to compensate as part of original safety certification.

5) Windshield is pitted - it's original as far as I can tell and after nearly 360,000 kms, it would be a good investment to replace, although functional as it is.

6) Car has no heater - has a ceramic unit set aside for it, but I never intended on winter or even cold weather driving so was never installed - can be provided to the buyer if needed.

Overall the car is drivable. The brakes are good as are the tires - but, remember that it is 17 years old and has a lot of kms on it.

Bottom line on this one complete is $1500 - cash preferred please.

If you add up the total components for the EV conversion alone (over $2000), you are actually getting the car for free, so any work you have to put in is easily offset by that factor.

If you are interested, please let me know. The car will be available as of first week of April. This will allow for some cleanup and to have it ready to transport.

Super Clean VW Green Machine

<img src='http://www.evtradinpost.com/./pictures/listings/th_medium_260_16.jpg'; align='left'; height='90'>1999.5 VW Golf Mark IV, 144V LiFe04 Thundersky 90ah battery pack. This car was originally converted to an EV by AC Propulsion for VW in 2000 from a European built car. The car was stripped and sold off as a glider. I purchased it in 2008 and begun the process of rebuilding the car. This car is a Croatian built model with euro bumpers and lights.
It has a Warp 9 dual shaft, Soliton 1 controller, Zivan DC-DC converter, 44 Thundersky 90ah batteries with Elithion BMS, Elcon charger. Batteries were installed summer 2009. Original car had less than 18,000 miles est. (28,500 km) miles when conversion started, currently has 23,300 miles est. (37,500 km) . Odometer is in Kilometers and not set to correct speed so mileage is estimated from odometer readings. I use a simple Garmin Nuvi GPS to check speed. Gauges were modified by AC Propulsion for 360v system. I have installed tachometer, ammeter and basic Elithion SOC gauge.
Soliton 1 controller has a liquid cooled system installed and can handle more than my batteries can push out. It is truly a trouble free controller. It was installed October 2010.
Elithion BMS manages charging, so the car is a plug and walk away system. The charging and balancing is all controlled by the Elithion BMS. The firmware was upgraded Dec 2010. System can be managed with simple computer terminal program.
Current charging system is set up for 120V, but charger is rated for 120/240V.
The interior modifications by ACP included battery compartments under the seats and the center tunnel, under the rear seat and trunk compartment. Current pack only uses the rear under seat and trunk compartment. There is room for lots of batteries in this car.
Recaro bucket seats in front and an upgraded split rear seat. Car has 1500w electric heater and Electric Blue AC unit installed 2010.
This car has been shown many times with the North Texas EV club (nteaa.org) with great reviews. It is a show car, with great attention to detail. You will not find a car this age in better condition. Excellent daily driver with a range of 40-45 miles.
This car is ready to go. Buyer will be responsible for shipping car out side of driving range.

VW Cabriolet For Sale

<img src='http://www.evtradinpost.com/./pictures/listings/th_medium_254_16.jpg'; align='left'; height='71'>This is an all-electric vehicle 1992 VW Cabriolet that I converted a few years ago. Whatever your reasons might be to not use gas, this is a great car to get you driving a plug-in. It is working and can drive away, but may need some work for you to be happiest with it. If you have considered converting a car to electric, this is a great way to get into an electric car, and certainly a lot less work! I love it, I love the convertible, but we really only need one car now and don't drive it enough. Range is about 30 miles with newer batteries. These don't have many miles on them, but with the freezing weather, the range will be less right now. Please email for any other specifics. Sale is as-is, but I will happily answer any and all questions.

I have a lot of parts and tools to go with the car:

Original springs, if you want to change it over to lithium
Bentley VW service manual
Assorted electrical parts
Battery lug crimper
Battery filler jug
MANY others

I'll also include a 25' outdoor charging cord and a hard to find 30A 120V GFCI breaker.

Some specs:
16 x8V flooded lead acid batteries
8" DC motor
Raptor 600 Motor Controller (600A 156V max)
Ceramic Heater
DC/DC Converter
Power brakes
Good condition vintage VW tear drop wheels with good tires

Cosmetically, I'd say is a little better than average for a 20 year old car. It's certainly not rough, and certainly not a garage queen. The paint is in great shape and has no rust I know of. The top could be replaced at this point, and there is a small worn out section on the driver's seat, and all the trim is there.
